History of Escape Motoring

Long time MG and Morris enthusiast, Neil Wakeman, used to go on solo early Sunday morning drives in the countryside to the east of Melbourne. Rugged up in a warm jacket, scarf and gloves, Neil’s regular Sunday morning ritual was a brisk run to many places in the countryside around Melbourne. Then, after doing this on his own for a couple of years a friend asked if he could come along in his Sprite. Then another person joined with his big Healey and the word soon spread.  Before long a whole gaggle of mature aged blokes in mature aged sports cars enjoying early morning drives and from this, Escape Motoring was born.

Membership

Escape Motoring is a Club for people who enjoy sports cars but we know that people have different views on what is a sport car. So we are pretty generous with our definition of a sports car but we do think it is very important that a person has a genuine desire to be a member of Escape enjoy an early morning drive (or mid-week run) and to meet and chat to other members at the end. They may have a sports car, would like to own one, used to have one or just like them.

So we ideally like it when new members are nominated by existing members or have come on a few runs to see if Escape Motoring is for you. (Note as we organise monthly runs, the Club has had to set a maximum number of 250 members).

You can also still remain a member of other clubs, maybe clubs that focus on your particular make of car but enjoy the early morning or mid week drives with fellow Escapees.

So if you are interested in joining, either talk to an existing member and come on some runs or call our Membership Officer (currently Joe – 63416@bigpond.net.au)
